Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 6, 2026Overview
Letterbox is a daily word puzzle game for iOS and Android. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What We Collect
Your email address and display name, from whichever sign-in method you choose. Your gameplay: puzzles completed, words found, scores, streaks, achievements, friends and groups. Playing as a guest still creates an account on our servers, under an anonymous identifier not linked to your name or email. If you enable notifications, a device token and your time zone.
How We Use It
To run the game, sync your progress across devices, operate leaderboards, friends and groups, send notifications you asked for, fix crashes, and measure our own advertising. We do not target advertisements at you or build advertising profiles, and we do not serve ads in the app.
Analytics & Crash Reporting
PostHog receives events describing how the app is used. Sentry receives crash reports. Google Analytics for Firebase records installs, app opens and account creation, and reports them to Google Ads so we can tell which advertisements work; on Android this uses your device's advertising ID. All three receive an account identifier, never your email or display name.
Session replay and automatic tap tracking are off.
Third-Party Services
- Google - Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, and Analytics for Firebase (privacy policy)
- PostHog - product analytics (privacy policy)
- Sentry - crash reporting (privacy policy)
All store data in the United States. Letterbox is a native app and uses no cookies, and we do not track you across other apps or the web.
What Other Players See
Your username and score appear on leaderboards, and your username is searchable so people can add you as a friend. Group members see your scores in that group, and friends see one another's results. Your email address is never shown.
Deletion & Retention
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete Account, which permanently removes your data from our servers. Analytics and crash reports are deleted on request. Aggregate statistics that cannot identify you are unaffected.
Your Rights
You can view your data in the app and delete your account from Settings. On request we will provide a copy of your data, correct it, delete your analytics and crash reporting data, or stop sharing data with Google for advertising measurement. We do not sell personal data. If you are in the EEA, the UK, California or a similar jurisdiction, these rights apply to you; contact us to exercise any of them.
Children
Letterbox is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page.
